Next-Gen Google Glass Model Gets Detailed

Google Glass has been in some hot waters lately, with the search giant not having the easiest run with its futuristic gadget. Say what you may, but Google isn’t letting its wearable wash away just yet, and is reportedly planning on a next-generation of the wearable with support from Intel.

Earlier, the search engine giant had pushed back the consumer launch of Google Glass as previously enthusiastic development houses were seen approaching the technology more cautiously after not being totally convinced with its commercial viability.

However, Google is not backing down, and according to The Wall Street Journal, the company is reportedly planning for a next-generation of Glass with new hardware, as it looks to Intel for powering the wearable. There’s no word on the actual fact sheet of the processor being used here, but we know it will be an ARM based one, and is likely to boast improved battery life. Google Glass was being powered by a processor from Texas Instruments till now, but as more and more mobile devices are showing up with Intel processors, Google seems to be confident with its choice.

Intel had revealed its own wearable device concept almost a month back, where the wearable was powered by its own processor based on the ARM technology, which is designed as a low-power consumption chip meant for mobile devices.

Besides Google, Intel itself seems to be very interested in promoting the gadget for its own popularity and consumer attraction as it aims to target hospital networks and manufacturing companies while developing new ideas for workplace usage of Glass. Google, meanwhile, is busy working with software developers to encourage the usage of Glass in industries such as healthcare, which will allow people to work with a seamless display of information.

Twitter was one of the few third-party companies which were supporting Google Glass, but it just recently dropped support for the device, raising some serious questions regarding the future of this project which had not received any significant update since it was revealed. This news, however, confirms that Google is determined to push ahead with the project and keep up with the latest hardware developments too while at it.

All eyes are set on 2015 as we wait and see what Google is cooking in the Glass department.

What are your thoughts on the development? Are you looking forward to the next-generation of Google Glass?
