New Report Claims Future iPad mini Will Get a 120Hz ProMotion Display

A new report claims that Apple is getting ready to ProMotion technology, along with 120Hz refresh rates, to the iPad mini line.

The same technology is currently offered as part of the iPad Pro and new MacBook Pro, not to mention the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The recently refreshed iPad mini doesn’t support any of this right now and suffers from what some call jelly scrolling — an effect that makes it appear that part of the display is moving at a different rate to another during scrolling. The addition of a 120Hz ProMotion display would theoretically fix that problem.

The report itself comes from a Korean forum post that was sent to Twitter by @FonTron, claiming Samsung displays will be used for an 8.3-inch ProMotion iPad mini in the future.

However, given the fact that we don’t really know the true source of this rumor it’s important to note that it should be taken with a grain of salt. Even if accurate, it isn’t clear what kind of timescale we’re talking about here.

Apple only refreshed the new iPad mini a matter of months ago so it’s unlikely a new refresh is anywhere near, especially given how long the iPad mini itself tends to go unloved by Apple.
