New Philips Hue Collection Announced: Hue Go With Bluetooth Support, Filament Bulbs, And Smart Button And Plug

A child company of Philips responsible for the globally successful Hue range has announced a slew of new products.

As part of the announcement, Signify has signaled its intentions to introduce a new Hue Filament collection, a new Smart Button, a Smart Plug, and a brand new and revised version of the Hue Go.

First and foremost, the Go product may sound familiar to some people who have already adopted the Hue range. This latest announcement focuses on a revamped version of that portable Go lighting experience and offers one fundamental improvement; the addition of Bluetooth connectivity.

HomeKit users will still need to have the Hue Bridge as the go-between the technologies, but everyone else will be able to connect the new Go directly to the Hue app or to third-party mechanisms, such as Alexa or Google Assistant. Improved battery life is also a new feature of the improved Go, which will retail for $79.99 this coming November.

Signify and Philips have also appended the Hue range with the addition of a brand new Smart Plug, which is designed in a similar vein to other popular plugs on the market in that its sole purpose is to turn “dumb” appliances “smart.”

As an example, plugging a standard old-school lamp into the new Hue Smart Plug will allow it to be controlled remotely through the Hue app or via Siri and HomeKit or Alex and Assistant. The Plug will start shipping next month at a cost of $39.99.

Straight after that comes the new Hue Smart Button which, like the Smart Plug, works similarly to other buttons on the market. Philips has clearly noticed that it has a hole in its smart home offerings and has acted to try and fill those gaps by announcing these products. Owners will be able to configure the Button to bend it to their will and have it perform certain functions when tapped or long-tapped. The Smart Button will cost $19.99 and will hit the market alongside the Smart Plug next month.

Perhaps most excitingly to some, Philips will also now have a brand new Filament range designed to bring intelligence to lighting designs which are “reminiscent of traditional, incandescent Edison-style bulbs.”

These bulbs will have huge appeal to homeowners who want modern intelligence and sophistication mixed with a classic design. The Filament range will include an A19 bulb shape, an ST19 tube design, and a gorgeous G25 globe, with prices starting from $24.99.
