Apple is working on a new thinner and lighter version of the MacBook Air, according to a new Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman.
The new machine will retain the same 13-inch screen size as the current model, but the report claims that we can expect the borders around the screen to be made smaller.
While no firm release window has been shared, Gurman’s source suggests that we can expect the new machine to arrive at the end of this year at the earliest, although 2022 was also mentioned.
As you might expect, the new MacBook Air will also be powered by Apple silicon.
The new computer is planned to be released during the second half of this year at the earliest or in 2022. It will include Apple’s MagSafe charging technology and a next-generation version of the company’s in-house Mac processors. Apple has discussed making the laptop smaller by shrinking the border around the screen, which will remain 13-inches. The current model weighs 2.8 pounds and is just over half an inch at its thickest point.
Notably, the report also says that we can expect the return of MagSafe, something that has long been wished for by people for what feels like forever. It would allow for easy charging while also ensuring that a pull of the cable causes a disconnect rather than the MacBook Air being yanked across a room.
Whether the return of MagSafe would also see the removal of USB-C charging remains to be seen.
