We’ve seen unannounced Apple devices appear in online ceritifcation databases before and this time it appears that we’ve seen the first outing of a new battery – likely set for a new and refreshed MacBook Air.
The battery carries the model number A2389 and is rated for 49.9Wh and with a capacity of 4,380mAh.
That rating matches the battery used in the current MacBook Air, suggesting that Apple’s thin and light notebook is going to be the destination this time around. The new battery was spotted in the Danish UL Demko and the China Certification Corporation databases earlier today.
The big question now is whether this new MacBook Air will feature Intel chips or Apple silicon. Apple did say that new Intel Macs are coming during its WWDC event last month.
But it did also say that we could expect the first Macs using Apple silicon to arrive before the end of the year, too. Given the power and heat restraints placed on notebooks like the MacBook Air, it would make plenty of sense for it to be one of the first out of the gate with Apple’s new chips on board.
The battery could also be set for a revival of the 12-inch MacBook, too, although that’s less likely at this point.
