Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 devices in September which is now just a matter of weeks away, but we’re already hearing plenty of rumors about what will come next. The iPhone 17 family of devices is expected to be announced in or around September 2025 and a new leak suggests that there are some changes in the cards.
The leak comes via a MacRumors report that is based on a post to the Chinese social network Weibo by leaker Ice Universe, an account that has a track record of sharing information about unannounced Apple hardware.
According to this post, there will be some notable changes to the iPhone 17 lineup compared to models that came before it.
One of the changes will be the launch of the new iPhone 17 Slim, a model that will sit above the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The new model will take the place of the iPhone 17 Plus in the lineup but become the most expensive model, starting at around $1,300. It’ll have a 6.65-inch display but be thinner than any other iPhone, hence the name. A new design is also thought to be in the cards.
Another interesting change will be support for 120Hz ProMotion across the entire iPhone 17 lineup, bringing the feature to non-Pro iPhones for the first time. The faster refresh rate will allow for smoother animations and scrolling, while the ability to slow the refresh rate to just 1Hz does open the door to always-on display support for the first time, too.
Other notable tidbits include the iPhone 17 Pro series having 12GB of RAM and 48-megapixel cameras while there is also a suggestion the fourth-gen iPhone SE will come with an OLED display for the firs time.
