Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone 14 lineup next week but it’s the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max that are capturing the attention. The new iPhones are expected to feature always-on displays and a new replacement for the notch, and a new leak claims to have shared information about both.
Starting with the new pill-shaped arrangement that will replace the notch, MacRumors cites a source when saying that we will see a change in battery and cell signal indicators for the first time in years. Those who want to use iOS 16’s new battery percentage indicator will benefit from more space, for starters.
The iPhone 14 Pro’s status bar will also purportedly see changes as a result of the increased amount of usable space at the top of the display, moving the cellular signal indictor to the left and re-implementing the full-width battery status bar on the Lock Screen and notification center when the device is locked.
Moving on to the always-on display, the report notes that notifications will appear at the bottom of the screen when received, before disappearing. But widgets will remain available at all times.
Notifications will be part of the iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display experience, and like on the normal Lock Screen, notifications will roll in from the bottom one at a time and remain subtly visible for 10 seconds. Once the display is woken up, the notifications will animate from the bottom and proceed to the user-defined setting of how notifications are presented on the Lock Screen (such as count, stack, or list).
Other notable points include the fact that the widgets will “but will fade in and out at set intervals, unnoticeable to the user, to prevent OLED burn-in,” while people will not be able to set different wallpapers for the always-on display. It’ll use the one that was set for the Lock Screen instead.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 14 lineup during an event on September 7, with iPhones likely to be available for pre-order on September 9.
