New iOS 18 AI Features May Require At Least An iPhone 15 Pro Or Later

Apple has long been tipped to launch a big new focus on AI when iOS 18 is announced at WWDC next week and we can expect the upcoming iPhone 16 devices to tie into that, too.

The iOS 18 will of course be available for older models as well, but a new report suggests that only those with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer will benefit from the best AI features.

That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who says that some of the on-device AI components will require an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max at the very least.

Gurman was writing in a Bloomberg report detailing Apple’s plans for an AI overhaul of the Siri digital assistant when he made the revelation. It’s a similar story for iPad and Mac owners as well, with only the M1 or newer likely to be supported.

Apple is betting that the new AI features for the iPhone, iPad and Mac — as well as the Siri enhancements — will encourage users to upgrade their devices. Many of the on-device AI capabilities will require an iPhone 15 Pro or later to work. Macs and iPads, meanwhile, will need at least an M1 chip.

Apple is yet to confirm any of this, and we still don’t know for sure what these new AI features are going to be. We won’t have to wait long to find out, at least. with WWDC set to kick off on June 10. None of the new software updates, including iOS 18, are expected to be made available to the public until September, however.
