Apple released iOS 17.5 just a day or so ago and while the update didn’t bring many new features with it, the release does appear to have caused a new bug to rear its head.
That bug is causing old photos to reappear sometimes years after they were first deleted.
The news, first spotted by MacRumors, comes as social media has lit up with a number of reports of photos, some more than a decade old, appearing in the Photos app as if they were taken today.
After updating their iPhone, one user said they were shocked to find old NSFW photos that they deleted in 2021 suddenly showing up in photos marked as recently uploaded to iCloud. Other users have also chimed in with similar stories. “Same here,” said one Redditor. “I have four pics from 2010 that keep reappearing as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud. I have deleted them repeatedly.”
There is currently no indication of why this is happening or indeed what people can do to fix the issue moving forward. Reports of people deleting the reappearing photos only for them to appear once more suggest that there isn’t much that can be done until Apple comes up with a fix.
Apple is yet to comment on the issue but that could well change in the coming days. If you’re suffering with this issue all you can really do is hang tight and wait for Apple to fix whatever it broke with iOS 17.5.
