Apple’s upcoming iOS 17 announcement could include a new Maps Lock Screen according to a leak by Twitter user @analyst941.
The leaker doesn’t have a huge record but has been sharing lots of potential iOS 17 and iPhone 15 details in recent weeks.
This is also the same person that shared details about the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island before it was announced officially, too.
With that said, the leak still feels like one that should be taken with a pinch of salt. According to a tweet iOS 17 will change the Lock Screen experience that users see when using the Maps app. Currently with iOS 16 turning the display off with an active navigation sees the entire Lock Screen replaced by the Maps app.
However, this leak suggests that iOS 17 will change that and put the clock as well as the camera and flashlight icons back on the screen. The leaker also says that the interface can be changed to be much smaller if required.
Love it or don’t, Apple doesn’t care – this is the new Maps “Live Activity” for Lock Screen (all iPhones).
– Seamless transition when unlocking.
– View notifications over the map by swiping up as usual.
– shows most Lock Screen elements until unlocked (except widgets afaik). pic.twitter.com/7PUwRUXgVx

Apple is expected to announce the new iOS 17 update during the WWDC event on June 5. Months of betas are then expected ahead of a final release to the public in or around the middle of September. That’s also when we can expect the iPhone 15 lineup to go on sale running the same software, too.
