New In iOS 18: Repair Assistant Feature For New Replacement Parts

With Apple having now released iOS 18 to the public there are plenty of new features for people to enjoy. Some of those features are more well-known than others, and one that’s worth paying attention to is a new Repair Assistant feature.

The new feature will allow iPhone owners and repair shops to configure new and used parts when installing them in one of Apple’s phones.

That’ll be a big deal because people who previously had an iPhone repaired with an unconfigured part could mean that they will receive a new warning in the Settings app.

Beginning with select iPhone models this fall, the new process is designed to maintain an iPhone user’s privacy, security, and safety, while offering consumers more options, increasing product longevity, and minimizing the environmental impact of a repair. Used genuine Apple parts will now benefit from the full functionality and security afforded by the original factory calibration, just like new genuine Apple parts.

Those who do receive the new prompt will be able to go through the part configuration process, with support for True Tone and features like Face ID requiring that these configuration steps be carried out in order for them to function.

Those who have not been able to use those features since having a new component installed may well see them enabled once the configuration process has been completed.
