Apple will announce multiple new mixed reality headsets in 2025, according to a new report.
The expectation is that Apple will announce its first mixed reality headset, dubbed Reality Pro, later in 2023. But that headset is expected to be very costly indeed, perhaps costing more than $3,000. Now, a new report claims that Apple is planning a different approach for 2025.
Writing on Medium, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that he believes that Apple has not one, but two new headsets planned for a 2025 release. One of them will be the updated version of the headset being announced in 2023, while the other will be a cheaper option.
Apple’s second-generation AR/MR headset has two high-end and low-end models. The high-end and low-end will be developed and produced by Luxcaseict and Foxconn, respectively. The current launch schedule for both models will likely be in 2025.
While Kuo doesn’t say how much that cheaper headset will cost, previous reports have pointed to a price point of around $1,500, although that could well change between now and the point when the headset actually ships.
Apple is potentially set to announce its first mixed reality headset during the WWDC23 event that will take place later this year. If Apple follows its usual pattern that event will take place in June. At which point we can expect to learn more about the product that we’ve been hearing so much about over the last few years.
