New Apple Car Report Points To No Steering Wheel Or Brake Pedal

Apple Car is a project that we’ve been hearing about for years now, almost ten of them in fact. We’re still likely to be a good few years away from the car actually shipping, if indeed it ever does.

But now a new report by The Information claims to have some new information about the product.

According to that report, the latest design of the car includes four seats that all face inwards, which means nobody is actually facing forwards. That matches up with another part of the report — the Apple Car won’t have any steering wheel and no brake pedal, either.

Other features include a trunk area that raises and lowers to allow for easier access as well as the potential for seat-back displays similar to those found in some luxury cars today.

The same report also suggests that Apple is investigating the possibility of giving passengers room to lay flat in the car, potentially allowing them to sleep during journeys. That would most definitely require special approval from various highways agencies.

The Apple Car project is one that has seen various managers come and go amid talk that the company has engaged with the likes of Kia about getting its car built. Whatever happens, and assuming the car does ship, we can expect it to be fully electric and sport an interface similar to that of the new CarPlay experience outlined during WWDC22 last month. As for what it could cost and whether it would be sold internationally given these self-driving functions, nobody knows.
