There’s definitely a perverse pleasure in seeing expensive, pristine gadgets being blown up, shot at, and generally defaced for no reason other than pure entertainment.
Of course, for those longing to get their hands on the devices, it can look something like a bad dream, and readers of a nervous disposition will probably not want to see the brand-new iPad sizzling and smoking on top of a grill, courtesy of Pork Barrel BBQ.
Also on the menu is the Galaxy Tab 10.1, although on this occasion, you won’t be getting an Ice Cream Sandwich dessert, and incase you were wondering, this is another field in which Apple’s tablet offering reigns supreme – withstanding a lot more heat than its Samsung-branded counterpart.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such "tests," and it surely won’t be the last. Following on from the iPad 2 – which proved its intense-heat credentials by surviving remarkably in lava before perishing in a similar experiment – the third addition to the Cupertino company’s flagship iPad range scores yet another point over the Galaxy Tab. Not a device-defining win, granted, but with the Apple vs. Samsung often bordering on the childish / ridiculous, they all count.
Over the past few months alone, we’ve seen iDevices dropped from different heights – with similarly predictable outcomes – but it hasn’t all been one-way traffic. The BUFF iPhone Screen Protector, which we featured last month, was pretty unique to any protective product we’ve ever seen. Able to soak up blows from coffee mugs and even a hammer without so much as a scratch of damage, it’s the kind of protection we’d love to be able to offer all of our devices.
Just to clarify, we wouldn’t advise you to go cooking your tablet device. It’s dangerous, hazardous, and, well, just plain stupid. Plus, after all of the effort you’ll need to put in to get it cooked to perfection, we hear it doesn’t taste particularly nice, and although tomato ketchup can save a lot of things, iPads and Galaxy Tabs – surprisingly – don’t fall under that umbrella.
But hey, there’s certainly a gap in the viral video market, so if you’ve got money to waste, and you’re aware of the risks, then there are plenty of internet users waiting to see how it turns out!
