Netflix is a company that continues to try and force its way into the games industry and it’s now released a new game controller app that is designed to be used with the iPhone and iPad.
The new controller was already rumored to be in the works, and the controller app can be downloaded from the App Store for free.
Coming soon to Netflix. Play games on your TV with the Netflix Game Controller. This Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device.
The idea seems to be a simple one. Gamers will play Netflix games on their TV using the Netflix app and then use their iPhone or iPad to control what’s going on. “To begin, choose a game on your TV and follow the directions to connect,” reads a message when launching the app. “Netflix Games on TV are in beta. Some devices may not be supported at this time.”
The Netflix game catalog isn’t a large one right now, but it’s something that the streaming giant continues to try and make into something of a side business. Some might suggest that it should focus on its video streaming app rather than build things like this, but it’ll be interesting to see how widespread use of this iPhone and iPad-based game controller becomes.
