Netflix is now cheaper than it previously was in a whole host of countries, it’s been reported.
While other streaming services are increasing their prices, Netflix has reduced the money it will charge for a subscription in a host of countries around the world.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that some of the countries benefiting from a price drop include Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Iran, Kenya, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Interestingly, this comes at a time when Netflix is also trying to recoup money from people who share their passwords with friends and family. Password sharing has been rife since Netflix first began streaming, but it’s something the company let slide. Until now.
Canada, Portugal, Spain, and some other countries are now seeing people receive alerts that they can only watch Netflix if they’re at home — a move designed to stop password sharing entirely.
As for these price drops, people can expect to see their bills fall by anything between 20% and 60%, it’s been reported. There is no indication that there will be a price drop in the United States, however.
It’s thought that the price drop has in part been driven by the sheer number of competitors now available in the marketplace. While Netflix was once the only game in town, competition is now offered by the likes of Apple, Paramount, and Disney.
