NBA 2K16 TV Edition Makes Its Way To Apple TV 4

The Apple TV 4 and the inclusion of its first tvOS App Store was all the rage a few months ago, but as time has trickled on, people’s attention has moved on also. For whatever reason, the Apple TV is once again being forgotten about. What it needs is an injection of new blood – some top-tier apps that can remind us all just why we wanted the Apple TV to get an App Store in the first place.

With NBA 2K16 TV Edition, developer 2K Sports is trying to do just that.

Essentially an updated version of the existing iOS game, NBA 2K16 TV Edition is exactly what that name suggests – an Apple TV -specific version of the popular NBA basketball game, but with Apple TV 4 support. That Apple TV support also includes the capability to play the game with a third-party supported game controller, which means that this is the closest thing to console-level NBA gaming that Apple has been able to offer, ever.

Priced at $9.99, NBA 2K16 TV Edition is considerably cheaper than the versions of the same game that are available on home console systems, but then again, those also feature improved graphics and the like. The Apple TV version looks nice, don’t get us wrong, but when you have the Xbox One and PS4, which are capable of pushing huge numbers of pixels around at blindingly quick pace, the Apple TV just isn’t going to compete. But does it matter?

As far as features are concerned, gamers can expect a full MyCAREER, Blacktop, and Season mode experience, which we suspect will keep most entertained for a good while, regardless.

The Apple TV isn’t there to replace the home console that you already own, but it does offer a very accessible, somewhat cheap alternative to those same consoles for those that don’t have them. The game itself is cheap, too, so if you need your NBA fix, then you could do worse than pick this tvOS version up for $9.99.
