The year 2010 is now coming to a close. Since I got to play with many different gadgets, I thought it will be nice if I summarized a list of my personal favorites from the year 2010.
1. Apple iPhone 4
I tried many different phones (and mobile platforms) this year. From HTC HD2 (Windows Mobile 6.5), to Nexus One (Android 2.2), to Omnia 7 (Windows Phone 7), to HTC HD7 (Windows Phone 7), and more recently the Nexus S (Android 2.3), but I have always found myself going back to Apple’s iPhone 4. Why you may ask? Well there is something about this hardware and software combination that makes me coming back to it. I got it on the third day of launch back in June, and since then, there has hardly been a day when my iPhone 4 hasn’t accompanied me wherever I went. Be it the super smooth user interface, excellent battery life or the sheer number of quality apps, there has been no phone like the iPhone 4 in 2010.
2. Microsoft Kinect and Apple iPad
Both Kinect for Xbox 360 and iPad for me are tied on the #2 spot. These two are by far the most revolutionary gadgets of the year 2010. They both are truly magical in their own way!
Kinect made me the game controller that I always wanted to be! Not only are the Kinect games enjoyable to play, they will also help you remain fit and active, important for someone like me who spends a chunk of time sitting in front of the computer. Dance Central for Kinect is my personal favorite. I cant wait to get my hands on Forza 4 with Kinect support. And after seeing all those amazing Kinect hacks for interacting with computer interfaces, I for one cant wait to see what Microsoft’s Kinect has in store for us in 2011.
iPad needs no introduction. It is the best portable reading device that I have used till date. The excellent all-day-long battery life, super smooth touch interface, and great tablet-computing apps has surely revolutionized my digital world. I can now read news, books & magazines, browse web, watch movies and play games whenever and wherever I want.
3. Apple MacBook Air (11-inch)
This is hands down the best notebook/laptop/netbook (or whatever you may want to call it) that I have ever owned. Period. It is amazingly thin, portable, and it boots at a speed that can put even the best of notebooks to shame. Battery life isn’t that great (around 4.5 hrs on Windows 7 and 5 hrs on OS X), but it fits my needs for day to day computing perfectly.
Honorable Mentions (in no particular order)
- 27-inch iMac 2010
- Samsung Omnia 7 (Windows Phone 7)
- Google Nexus S (Android 2.3 Gingerbread)
- Sony PlayStation 3 (Remains the best Blu-ray player that money can buy in 2010)
Oh and yea, Happy New Year everyone ! Hear is to a great 2011 ahead !
