Motorola has introduced three new phones at their joint event with Verizon Wireless just moments ago: the DROID RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD and RAZR M. Let’s discuss them bit by bit, after the jump.
The first phone announced is the DROID RAZR HD. It’s the size of the original DROID RAZR, but comes with a larger, near bezel-less 4.7” HD display with sharpness and colors that are, according to Motorola, miles ahead of the Retina display on the iPhone 4S. It is powered by Qualcomm’s benchmark-leading Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual core chip, 1GB of RAM, and comes with an 8-megapixel camera.
But that’s not its best feature!
RAZR HD
Google and Motorola representatives repeatedly mentioned strong, long lasting batteries in the conference: the DROID RAZR HD comes with a class leading 2530mAh battery which, when combined with the efficient chipset, has a claimed talk time that is nearly double that of the competition.
Lastly and very importantly, the DROID RAZR HD comes with what appears to be a very slightly customized version of Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich; offering an almost Galaxy Nexus-like experience. Jelly Bean update is promised for all three announced devices “later this year”.
RAZR MAXX HD’s lovely back.
The second phone is the DROID RAZR MAXX HD. It’s the RAZR HD with a more powerful 3300mAh battery, offering up to 21 hours of talk time, 10 and 27 hours of video and music playback over 4G LTE (respectively). In addition to that, it also comes with 32GB of built-in memory.
The last phone announced is the DROID RAZR M. Motorola specifically made this device for people like me who just don’t like their phones to be uncomfortably huge like the One X or Galaxy S III. It’s nearly the height and width of an iPhone 4S, but comes with a 4.3” edge to edge qHD 960 x 540 display (40% more display area).
RAZR M
Don’t associate the smaller display with weaker specifications, though. The DROID RAZR M comes with the same dual core chip, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP camera, and the 2000mAh battery is still among the best in its class.
Again, that’s arguably not the best thing about this phone.
The DROID RAZR M’s price – despite coming with such high end specifications – is $99. A full Benjamin lower than similarly spec’d devices.
All three phones will be available exclusively on Verizon Wireless “before the holidays”. The DROID RAZR M’s release date, however, was more specific: it will be in stores next week.
