Is there no end to all this lawsuit madness? We’ve got Apple suing anyone who has ever been mad enough to put their name to a smartphone or a tablet, and everyone else is suing each other.
Now Motorola is taking a pop at the big dog, again, with Apple on the receiving end of a new lawsuit in which Motorola Mobility claims the iPhone maker has infringed upon one of its patents.
Just to add a little fuel to a fire which is already sure to burn bright, Motorola Mobility is currently in the process of being bought by, you guess it, Google.
Oh joy.
Motorola’s complaint resolves around two of Apple’s latest releases – the iPhone 4S, which is proving exceptionally popular amongst buyers, and the iCloud online storage service which Apple intends to use as the backbone for things to come over the next ten years.
According to Reuters, "Motorola said it was suing Apple for infringing six of its patents involving technologies related to wireless antennae, software, data filtering and messaging."
The case was filed in a Florida federal court today, with Motorola apparently ready to go toe-to-toe with the biggest boys on the block – a decision that hasn’t really proved to be a wise one for many a tech company of late.
This of course isn’t the first time that Motorola and Apple have found themselves squaring up to one another. Back in December, Motorola won a preliminary injunction which could see the barring of iPhone and iPad sales in Germany.
Just when it seemed the legal news was beginning to thin out slightly, here we have Motorola Mobility and potentially Google taking on Apple in a new case of potential patent infringement.
Never let it be said that life as a lawyer at a big tech company is a boring one. There are plenty earning their money in silicon valley these days!
Apple for its part was not available for comment today, though we don’t expect them to say a great deal when they are!
Wrapping it up, don’t you think that these lawsuits are becoming more or less childish moves? Leave your thoughts on our fan pages, links given below.
