Microsoft has started to roll out the Windows 11 2024 software update today, with the software bringing with it a number of improvements that while not huge, could be notable for some.
The update is also known as 24H2 and it should be available to PC users soon if they aren’t seeing it just yet.
This new software update brings with it support for smaller quality-of-life improvements rather than flashy new features, with support for HDR backgrounds being a prime example of that.
There is also a change to the Start menu for users of the Phone Link app, with Windows 11 now sporting a side panel that offers information on phone specifics such as battery life and notifications.
Sticking with the Start menu, the system tray has a new date and time interface that’s easier to read while the year has been removed. New Quick Settings options are joined by retooled power options including a new Energy Saver mode that should help people get a little extra time out of their laptops.
Fans of File Explorer will note the newly redesigned home section while support for creating 7z and TAR files has also been added, too. All of that, plus other small improvements, are available to those who update to Windows 11 2024 starting today.
