Meta’s High-End $1,000 Smart Glasses Could Launch By Year’s End

Meta is reportedly working on a new, high-end version of its popular Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that have a built-in screen and more. And it could launch as early as the end of this year.

That’s according to a new Bloomberg report, which claims the project, codenamed Hypernova, will see apps and photos shown on the new built-in display.

Hand gestures will be used to control the interface, while touch controls will be built into the frame’s sides. However, those hoping for a huge display will be left disappointed.

According to the report, the new smart glasses will only have the display visible on the right lens, and even then, it’ll be in the lower-right corner. In use, it’s believed that the interface will be similar to that of the Meta Quest AR/VR devices that have proven so popular with buyers in recent years.

Other improvements compared to Meta’s current smart glasses are thought to include an improved camera. Pricing is sure to be a problem, though. While the current Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses sell for around $300, it’s thought that Hypernova will cost at least $1,000 and could go as high as $1,400.

No firm release schedule has been announced, but a launch before the end of the year is a possibility, it’s believed.
