MacBook Pro Lineup Receives Spec Bump: Faster CPUs, GPUs And Bigger Storage

Capture2

The news comes just a week after multiple websites reported that new MacBook Pros were appearing in Apple’s inventory system.

The specification bump isn’t as significant as the spec-bump of Feb 2011 was, but they are, of course, still welcome. Entry level models of these MacBook Pros get a lot out of this since they are now come with faster processors and bigger hard drives.

Let’s consider the 13” model first: its entry level build now comes with a dual-core 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU (early 2011 model started out with 2.3 GHz), a spacious 500GB 5400rpm hard drive. The higher-performance build of the same MacBook Pro now has a super fast dual-core 2.8GHz Core i7 processor and a 750GB 5400rpm  hard drive.

Moving on to the 15” model: its base build is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 500GB 5400rpm hard drive and a faster Radeon HD 6750M GPU  with 512MB GDDR5 memory. Its higher-end model comes with 2.4GHz quad-core Core i7, 750GB 5400rpm hard drive and a somewhat faster Radeon HD 6770M with 1GB GDDR5 memory.

Lastly, we have the 17” model which is powered by 2.4GHz quad-core Core i7 processor, 750GB 5400rpm hard drive and Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB GDDR5 memory.

Prices for all models remain the same as last year and all models have the same 4GB DDR3 RAM clocked at 1333MHz. Besides this, everything else you know and love (or hate) about MacBook Pros remains the same: up to 7 hours of battery life, aluminum unibody design, Thunderbolt port, FaceTime HD camera, OS X Lion, backlit keyboard and multi-touch trackpad with gesture support.

Everything has been summarized in this table:

The MacBook Pros will be available in Apple Stores starting today and may be ordered from Apple’s official website. If you have been waiting for a spec bump before getting a MacBook Pro, now would be a very nice time to get one.

Detailed specifications of all models can be looked up, of course, from official website here.
