Mobile marketing firm Fiksu has shared data it has collected in and around Cupertino in which multiple new iPad models can be found in logs from Fiksu’s tracking and attribution SDK, which is used by thousands of mobile apps, lending further credence to claims that Apple will unveil more than one new iPad in the coming weeks.
According to Fiksu’s data, which was shared with TechCrunch, no fewer than four new iPad identifiers have cropped up and although that does not necessarily mean there will be four new iPads – WiFi and WiFi + Cellular iPads normally have different model numbers – it does likely mean that anything from two to four brand new devices will be unveiled.
Rumors have circulated for a number of months now in which analysts such as KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo have reported that Apple will launch new iPad sizes, bringing the options to 12.9-inches, 10.5-inches, 10-inches and 9.7-inches.
It is unclear whether any of these are what Fiksu’s data shows, though at this point, it does look likely than not.
Fiksu has pointed out that there has only been a small number of iPads detected with the new identifiers in place, though the firm does note that this is “about the same number we see being tested about a month before release.” The new model numbers in evidence are below, along with a count of how many times they have popped up.
Device | Count
iPad 7,3 | 5
iPad 7,4 | 10
iPad 7,2 | 11
iPad 7,1 | 17
The data shared by Fiksu shows the iPads originally began to crop up in logs back in September, with the frequency of their appearance ramping up as time went on. February saw the most instances of the new identifiers appearing in Fiksu’s logs, just as you might expect if a device is undergoing additional testing, ready to be signed off for production.
