Logitech has announced that its extremely well-received ZeroTouch in-car smartphone experience is being upgraded with a slew of new capabilities via an app update.
The car phone holder, which was launched last year to bring a hands-free texting and talking solution for vehicles, is now in the process of being updated with Amazon Alexa integration being added in the accompanying ZeroTouch app on Android.
ZeroTouch was applauded by owners for its abilities to make using smartphone in the car truly hands-free, and therefore safe. Drivers were able to instantly start conversations via text, or even bring up a GPS system to find a particular destination or point of interest without the need to pull over in a safe position and then fiddling about with their phones.
ZeroTouch with Alexa integration now allows drivers to control smart home devices that are connected with Alexa right from their cars. They can also ask Alexa simple questions and get immediate answers, or even use it to order new products whilst zipping down the highway. And of course, it can even be used to ensure that hot food is there ready for them when they arrive thanks to integrations with the likes of JustEat.
The rise of Alexa has been pretty monumental over the last 6-12 months, with Amazon’s voice assistant popping up in all sorts of devices, both manufactured by Amazon and third-parties. With a number of vehicle manufacturers already seriously looking at building cars with Amazon’s voice assistant built-in at a factory level, it seems that the future is definitely intelligent vehicles with voice controlled functionality, but for now it would seem that the upgraded ZeroTouch experience is potentially the cheapest and easiest way of getting Alexa into any vehicle.
The latest ZeroTouch app update is offered free-of-charge to existing ZeroTouch users and is available starting today. Those looking to get in on the action can purchase the product for $59.99 for an air-vent mounted version, with the dashboard option costing $79.99, with the app being still only available for Android devices.
