Lightning Dock For iPhone 5s / 5c And iPhone 5 Now Available Directly From Apple

The next generation iPhone 5s with a 64-bit A7 chip, and its sibling, the iPhone 5c, were finally announced today, living up to all the previous hype and rumor that surrounded both these marvelous devices. Along with a new device, what’s always anticipated is a new accessory, and while the one that we’re showing off is nothing new, it’s a revival of something that was already there but was taken down for some reason. You can now get Apple’s very own Lightning docks for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, being sold through the Apple Store.

The official docks are compatible with the iPhone 5s / 5c and the iPhone 5 and are priced at $29. The docks have no shipping date as of yet, although the pickup date does claim “Visit an Apple Retail Store starting 9/20”. The accessories also carries an audio line out port that allows connection to speakers (or EarPods), and also let you conduct speakerphone calls while the device is docked. Both support Lightning to USB cables as well, which are, obviously, sold separately from the docks.

It’s quite understandable as to why the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c have separate docks, owing to the fact that both devices have different hardware design, but somewhat shady as to why Apple didn’t go for a universal Lightning dock. Perhaps another marketing strategy from the fruit company?

The docks come in a stylish white color option, which might seem a little odd, considering the unusual color flavors that both the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c will be sold in. Then again, Apple’s products have always carried a certain finishing and quality that makes them stand out, and we might see a similar scenario happening here as well.

There are, of course, third party solutions available as well for docking your beloved iPhone, but I personally have always been a fan of original, first-party hardware. The fact that Apple is retailing these again is indicative that the company saw advantage in continuing to make these, and the way I see it, you can never go wrong with a brand new shiny iPhone sitting comfortably in its own dock on your desk.
