In every walk of life, everyone loves to get a bargain and receive something for free, with smartphone users being no different. Although we think about nothing before spending hundreds of dollars on buying the latest gadgetry, we tend to be hesitant when it comes to spending the odd few pennies on apps and software to compliment that device.
Thankfully, from time to time, some of the more comprehensive apps go free for a period of time and that certainly applies to the LightBomber for iPhone and iPod touch app by MRI Lightpainting. Unlike any other standard photography apps which offer various filters and image manipulation techniques, LightBomber offers users the unique ability to capture engaging images that take advantage of long exposures and light painting techniques.
LightBomber is billed as the only mobile app that is created for the App Store by professional light painters, so you can expect that it would bring everything required for people to make extremely different and vivid photographs. When the app is launched, a number of handy little overlaid views are presented to give some necessary hints and tips to the user on how to get the most from the app itself. Unlike apps such as Instagram, Camera+ and other photography offerings, LightBomber isn’t a simple case of point and shoot then applying filters afterwards. The app requires a little bit of forethought beforehand to get the right scene setup for the perfect light complimented image.
The LightBomber user-interface is, as you would expect from an iOS-based photography-type app. Built around a slightly customized tab bar setup, the app features the ability to view popular and recent images, and also allows uploading images directly to the LightBomber network to share your creations with the community. With a couple of different ways to shoot images, mixed with different light settings, LightBomber is actually a very fun app, but does take quite a bit of getting used to in order to create good images.
