Various companies have already shown their willingness to invest heavily in wrist based technology in an attempt to conquer the market that hasn’t yet fully emerged. South Korean based LG is the latest company to throw its hat into the ring with the announcement of the LG G Watch, and although the device isn’t slated for release until later this month, a new promotional video manages to tease us into guessing some of the features it will ship with.
The official G Watch Hardware video doesn’t go into great detail about the new LG product, but it does provide some pointers to what potential consumers can expect. The 53-second long video opens with some overly dramatic music, matched with some impressive visuals before overlaying the text “LG defines the smartwatch“. The makers of the video then see fit to immediately make us all aware that the watch will be “compatible with Android” and that it will be powered by Android Wear.
The actual physical product is then displayed and shown off as part of a 360-degree rotating tour. LG Promises that its new watch will be “sleek and lightweight for all-day comfort“, and that it will be built with a “metal body for a timeless look” and it will also be “waterproof for your outdoor activities“. The video doesn’t specify any particular waterproofing details, but we imagine it will be at least 5ATM waterproof to match competitors like the Pebble Steel.
One of the biggest drawbacks of devices of this nature invariably tends to be battery life. The video doesn’t go into any great detail about the battery that will ship with the G Watch, but it does state that the wearable will be “ready for anything, anytime with a single charge“. We can only hope that whatever LG announces later in the month comes with an impressive battery life. The video does a great job of keeping the G Watch fresh in our minds and certainly leaves us wanting to know the full story on this one.
Check it out for yourself and see what you think. Will it give Samsung’s Gear 2 a run for its money? And how do we think it will compare to anything that Apple could potentially announce at next month’s WWDC? It’s certainly an exciting time in the wearable scene.
