After initially saying that it would only make AirPlay 2 and HomeKit available for its newer 2019 TVs, LG now appears to have had a change of heart and will instead bring it to older models, too.
According to a MacRumors report, LG has updated a support document to suggest that support for Apple’s tech will now come to “some of its 2018 smart TVs by October 2020, including LCD models with “SK” or “UK” in the name and OLED models with “B8” through “Z8″ in the name.”
LG’s original decision to just include 2019 models was so controversial that 20,000 people submitted a petition to have it reversed.
Whether that’s the reason for the change or not, those who will now get AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are unlikely to care too much.
AirPlay 2 support will allow users to more easily stream content including video and music from an Apple device directly to their LG TV. With HomeKit support users will also be able to control their TV using Siri or the Home app on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
LG has already added the Apple TV app to its 2018 models, with the two new additions rounding out the list of Apple services.
