We’re in the most unusual of times right now with Apple’s usually tight security being forced to admit defeat because of the number of engineers and developers who are now working from home.
That’s creating an environment that seems to be pushing more leaks than ever, and Jon Prosser has another ahead of next week’s WWDC event. According to him, Apple is going to rename iOS to iPhone OS.
Note the space between iPhone and OS.
In fact, that’s all he actually said. A single two-word tweet read “iPhone OS” and that was all he had to say. The assumption is that Apple intends to use that naming convention, though. Apple did previously call iOS something similar in the form of iPhoneOS, so it’s possible we’ll see a return to that branding here. Where that would leave the iPod touch, though, is anyone’s guess.
It’s also possible that Prosser isn’t on the money here despite his previously impressive rate of accuracy.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 14 during its WWDC opening keynote on Monday, June 22. With that in mind we’ll surely know for sure what Apple intends to call the update next week. Assuming there aren’t more leaks between now and then. And at this rate, we wouldn’t want to guarantee anything.
