If Microsoft is trying to keep its future plans regarding new products under wraps, then the company is doing a pretty poor job of it at present. With supposed details regarding the next-gen Xbox having surfaced a couple of days ago, another nugget of info has now emerged describing a new device, named "Xbox Surface".
According to the details, the tablet device will fall under the 7-inch class size, packing in a respectable 1280×720 display resolution, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and an SD slot, among many other of your standard tablet features.
With the MSFT media event arriving later today, it’s certainly strange that such a concise list would emerge just before, and with the much discussed announcement thought to concern a Microsoft-engineered tablet, the vital statistics may already be public domain.
It is unknown, at this point in time, as to how old this information is, and since prototype products are revised and enhanced on numerous occasions before announcement and subsequent release, it may well be that the information is quite outdated.
Given that there is rumored to be a Galaxy Nexus Tablet arriving in the 7-inch class, as well as the less likely possibility of a smaller, much cheaper iPad, the shape of the tablet market could change dramatically over the next few months.
Apple currently dominates proceedings on the tablet front, but there has been plenty of coverage with regards to what Microsoft may offer to the market once it finally gets its act together and challenges the seemingly insurmountable dominance of the Cupertino based company.
The event, as we say, kicks off later this evening, and if this latest leak has arrived courtesy of Microsoft, the software maker has certainly done a good job of whetting the appetite of consumers and tech enthusiasts in the build-up. Having said that, the specs do look a tidbit mediocre, so let’s hope Steve Ballmer’s company has leaked out old technical information, with the intention of blowing them – and rivals – out of the water with the announcement.
As you would expect, we will have all of the details here as they break, so stay tuned to our coverage here at Redmond Pie.
