Blink and you will likely miss an iPhone 8 leak this week, and a new one has again jumped out and screamed for attention. The latest comes from Benjamin Geskin via Twitter and is claimed to show a mold used for making iPhone 8 handsets, complete with the vertical camera configuration that we have now become accustomed to following a huge number of leaks over the recent days.
Geskin today shared multiple images via his Twitter account, with the mold photo also accompanied by one in which a piece of paper is shown with supposed iPhone 8 schematics drawn out on it with details showing the Lightning cable connector, sleep/wake button and the new vertical dual-camera setup on the rear of the device.
The the other images appear to be CNC-milled metal molds that would be used during the iPhone manufacturing process, although it is difficult to know to which point in that process they belong. In fact, it’s impossible to know whether they are actually from that process at all.
As with the most recent round of leaks, this one also casts shade over previous leaks which suggested that the Touch ID fingerprint scanner would move to the back of the iPhone in this iteration.
The schematics leaked today do not show any such area in which the fingerprint sensor could reside, suggesting that it would live back around the front of the device if these photos are to be believed.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 8 later this year, perhaps in the usual September announcement window we have become accustomed to. At the rate these leaks are going though it is conceivable that we will know all there is to know about the device, assuming the leaks are accurate of course. With Apple testing multiple iPhone prototypes at any one time, it is still possible that these leaks could represent one prototype that will never see the light of day in an Apple Store.
