Leaked iPhone 6 Logic Board Reveals Built-In NFC And Wi-Fi 802.11ac [Photos]

The iPhone 6 leaks have been arriving thick and fast these past few weeks, with the manufacturing process now apparently in full swing. Today, we’re getting a look at what is claimed to be the upcoming Apple handset’s logic board, which offers details on the Wi-Fi hardware as well as clues on the NFC implementation.

Apple is famously apprehensive about adding emerging technologies to its major devices right away. It wasn’t until 2012’s iPhone 5 that we finally saw 4G LTE, and although NFC, or Near Field Communication, has been a feature of almost every high-end Android device for the past couple of years, the iPhone remains bereft.

This is all set to change with the iPhone 6, which, it has long since been suggested, will feature NFC. This new logic board leak, which has emerged via Nowhereelse.fr, is accompanied by a report indicating that the next-gen Apple smartphone will include faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi along with NFC, and although there’s no way of verifying whether the component depicted is legitimate, NWE is frequently on the money with its Apple-related info.

The inclusion of NFC would open many doors to Apple and its army of users, particularly with regards to mobile payments, and although we’re still not getting carried away by these reports, the fact that the iPhone 6 looks set to offer a series of firsts for the Cupertino inclines us to believe that we well be getting NFC.

The logic board shown here is likely for the 4.7-inch model, and although we’ve heard that a 5.5-inch edition of the iPhone 6 is also on the horizon, we haven’t seen much physical evidence of it so far. With that said, it’s also suspected that the more sizeable handset is beset by delays, with display and battery issues holding it back.

The iPhone 6’s design will borrow much from the likes of the iPad Air and iPod touch as Apple tries to bring a degree of uniformity to its treasured iOS device range, and with the current consensus that 2014’s iPhone will be a mere 7mm thick, it may also be the thinnest handset that Apple has ever released.

Whatever the case, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more clues, so stay tuned!
