Apple’s iPhone 6 is now not far from announcement, and a new set of benchmarks have apparently detailed the interior hardware of the 4.7-inch model. The Geekbench benchmark may well have been faked, but given that the readings do tie in with multiple reports, we’re inclined to believe that they are, in fact, the real deal. Check out the key details after the fold!
Apparently the iPhone 6, which will run with the “iPhone 7,2” model number, will once again include a processor with 64-bit architecture, although while some have suggested that the dual-core A8 processor would be clocked at 2GHz or more, it would appear as though those estimates were a little off the mark. Apparently, the clock speed will be 1.4GHz per core, which is a conservative bump over the iPhone 5s’s 1.3GHz A7, and if one considers Apple’s ethos for optimizing the entire experience rather than simply adding stronger hardware, it seems plausible that these Geekbench results are representative of the actual product.
There’s been talk also that the iPhone 6 would include 2GB of RAM, which would once again be a considerable bump over the one gig of RAM found in the current flagship. The Geekbench results show that the iPhone 6 will retain 1GB of RAM, and although this may dishearten power users hoping for a bit more this time around, we’d expect another fluid, lag-free experience on Apple’s iOS 8.
iPhone 6 mustered 1,633 points in the single-core test and 2,920 points in the multi-core test, which is a considerable improvement over the iPhone 5s, and should equate to a smoother user experience than ever before.
But while the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 mightn’t boast the top-end specs that many so crave, the 5.5-inch variant dubbed the ‘iPhone 6 Plus’ may well deliver the goods. Touted to include a 2,915mAh battery, 2GB of RAM and, of course, a larger display, it has been leaked ad nauseam over the past couple of months, and although it was suggested that the more sizeable model wouldn’t release until next month due to delays, it now appears that said handset may join the iPhone 6 on the suggested September 19th retail date.
A benchmark leak of the iPhone 6 Plus would certainly offer more insight, but with just a couple of hours to go, we’re not holding our breath.
