Apple’s new iPad Air has been announced but nobody can buy it yet. Thankfully that hasn’t stopped someone from getting their hands on one and then running a Geekbench benchmark through it. The result?
Some pretty impressive numbers but also the confirmation that the new tablet comes with 4GB of RAM built in.
Previously we saw a leaked benchmark image showcasing the A14’s prowess, but we missed a little something; yes that 4GB of RAM.
The previous generation iPad Air shipped with 3GB of RAM, meaning this new model comes with a third more RAM to go along with the improved A14 processor. The previous model shipped with an Apple A12 processor.
For comparison’s sake, Apple’s current iPad Pro models all ship with 6GB of RAM, the most of any iOS or iPadOS device to date.
With the new iPad Air clearly a powerhouse it might be the go-to iPad for people who don’t quite want an iPad Pro but do want to take advantage of all the professional apps now available for iPadOS.
With Apple not making the iPad Air available to buyers just yet it’s thought it is holding off until it can announce the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. That’s likely because of the performance characteristics of that A14 processor, something the new iPhones are also expected to have under the hood.
Apple is likely to announce the new iPhones within the next few weeks and expectations are already pretty high. Especially if the numbers this iPad Air offers are any indication of what we will see from Apple’s 2020 iPhones.
