According to a recent leak, Cupertino-based Apple Inc. will use the release of its new iPhone 12 flagship model to upgrade its accompanying power adapter. It’s highly likely that the more expensive models in the iPhone range will ship with a 20W USB-C power adapter in the box.
Right now, if you were to walk into an open Apple Store and grab yourself a brand new iPhone 11 Pro, you would unbox the device and have an accompanying 18W USB-C power adapter.
If you were to go into the same store and purchase the cheaper iPhone 11 model, then you would likely be slightly upset to find that Apple supplies you with a less powerful 5W charger with that device. According to Twitter leaker Mr. White (@laobaiTD), the “new iPhone 12” models will come with a revamped 20W power adapter.
The leaker hasn’t specified any additional details. Specifically, there is no mention which iPhone 12 models will ship with the improved 20W power adapter or if all of the new models will benefit from this hardware upgrade. Apple is widely expected to announce an iPhone 12 range that comprises of four individual models. Analysts are expecting that range to include a high-end “Max” version that ships with a stunning 6.7-inch display.
If Apple follows the same pattern with iPhone 12 as it did with iPhone 11, then it’s likely only going to be this model that will benefit from the new adapter. It’s all still speculation at this point.

We can imagine that anyone shelling out upwards of $1,000.00 for a new iPhone 12 that doesn’t come with the 20W power adapter will be slightly disgruntled, especially when it’s also widely accepted that Apple will no longer ship wired earbuds with the iPhone 12 models when they launch later this year.
When iPhone 12 is announced, there should be a model that covers everyone’s needs. The cheapest version of the device is said to be a 5.4-inch variant, followed by a 6.1-inch model that doesn’t come with high-end features like a triple-camera system and LiDAR scanning. If you opt for the top-end iPhone 12 “Max” then the chances are that you will benefit from a 20W power adapter. If you purchase any other models, well, only time will tell what’s in the box.
