Apple is set to announce a raft of new software updates during its annual WWDC event later today. While the event might be scaled back and running online due to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s one of the most anticipated in years.
Now a prolific leaker has shared details about what we should expect from today’s announcements.
Anonymous Twitter account L0vetodream has shared a leak from Weibo on Twitter and translated to English.
The big leak being the macOS 10.16 reveal; Big Sur, is what Apple is likely to call it. The update will also bring in a redesigned UI, and some important Safari tweaks and improvements as well. Guess we’ll know in a couple of hours!
It is also suggested that we won’t see iOS renamed to iPhoneOS as had previously been suggested by Jon Prosser, but that isn’t a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.
More interesting on the iOS front though, is the suggestion that iOS 14 will see a Home screen redesign, adding support for widgets as well as a change in “app alignment”. That could mean that the Home screen grid is finally getting a makeover, something that has been claimed in previous leaks. That, alone, could be enough reason to be excited about iOS 14! The same goes for a claim that phone calls won’t automatically take over the iPhone’s screen when they are received, too.
The leaker also suggests that iPadOS 14 will get new handwriting features for use with the Sidecar feature, with tvOS getting some much needed HomeKit love for Apple TV users. That will likely allow users to control HomeKit accessories using the Apple TV’s Siri Remote, for example.
It’s only a few hours before Apple announces iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and more during its online event. We’ll be watching and we’re sure you will be, too!
