Rumors about Apple’s mixed reality headset just won’t go away and now respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is getting in on the act.
According to a research note, Kuo believes that the new headset will feature an eye tracking system that could also extend to a using iris scanning as a form of security.
The research note, seen by MacRumors, claims that eyeball movement will be tracked via the reflection of invisible light.
Apple’s eye tracking system includes a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitting end provides one or several different wavelengths of invisible light, and the receiving end detects the change of the invisible light reflected by the eyeball, and judges the eyeball movement based on the change.
Little is actually known about the rumored headset, however. A separate report by The Information has previously suggested that some sort of eye tracking technology will be used, however. Current rumors have the headset penciled in for a release at some point in 2022, although that could very well change before shipments begin.
Actual use cases for such a headset are unclear, however. A previous Bloomberg report says that the headset will primarily be virtual reality, likely to be used for games and media consumption.
