Kingston Unveils World’s Largest USB Flash Drive With 2TB Capacity At CES 2017

Kingston is a name that covers all manner of computer accessories, but there is one market in which it is now a world leader after the announcement of a new USB flash drive that the company claims can boast the world’s largest capacity for such a device. With a maximum capacity of 2TB, we think Kingston may have a point.

Announced during the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Kingston’s horrendously named DataTraveler Ultimate Generation Terabyte (GT) is available in two capacities: 1TB and 2TB.

In order to get all of that data moving around as quickly as possible, both capacities support the USB 3.1 Gen 1 specification with the 2TB option good for up to 70 hours of 4K video, according to Kingston’s press release.

Construction wise, Kingston’s design includes a body made of a zinc-alloy metal casing, providing increased shock resistance and support for all major desktop operating systems is present and correct. At 72mm x 26.94mm x 21mm, the drive might not be as compact as the ones we’ve been used to, but that is understandable, given its capacity and the protection it should offer for the all the data it can hold.

“At Kingston, we push the limits of what’s possible,” said Jean Wong, Flash business manager. “With the DataTraveler Ultimate GT, we empower users to increase their data storage mobility in a highly manageable form factor. This is a terrific follow up to our 1TB drive released in 2013 and by doubling the capacity, users can store and carry even larger amounts of data easily.”

Buyers of the new flash drives can look forward to a 5-year warranty and free technical support.

Those looking to get their hands on the world’s highest capacity flash drive will have to wait until February in order to do so, and no pricing is available as yet. Keep an eye out across all of the usual online vendors in the coming weeks in order to order yours.
