KFC Now Accepts Contactless Payments, Including Apple Pay

If you are an extremely busy individual, whether personally or professionally, who is continually on the move, then the chances are that at one point or another, you’ve found yourself in the sticky predicament of needing to catch a bite to eat but not actually having any cash or cards on you to pay for it.

Thankfully, that may not be as painful as it once was going forward thanks to fast-food chain KFC officially announcing that it now accepts Apple Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay, and a slew of other modern payment options at a number of its United States fast-food outlets.

KFC, like most fast-food outlets such as McDonald’s or Burger King, may not offer the healthiest of eating options, but exists and remains extremely popular due to the convenience that it provides for individuals looking for a quick bite to eat. Given that the company markets itself as being able to provide quick, almost instant food to go, it makes perfect sense that it would also want to be seen as offering the same level of quickness and efficiency when it comes to payments.

Rather than having to fumble about with cards or cash, customers will simply be able to present a compatible mobile or wearable device to transact.

Ease of use and functionality were our first priorities. When we factored in consumer concerns about security and privacy, we identified Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay as the best options for our guests.

KFC’s United States Chief Information Officer gives a little insight as to why the first spate of outlets will accept Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, but it also seems that Apple knew this move was coming way ahead of the official announcement. Back in October of 2015, Apple Pay Vice President Jennifer Bailey – who recently announced that her company was working as hard as possible to penetrate additional European and Asian countries with Apple Pay – stated that the contactless payment platform would indeed be coming to KFC in the near future.

The initial compatibility with KFC’s contactless systems will be available in a select few of its United States-based restaurants. KFC will be looking to rollout nationwide support for those payment platforms by the end of the summer.
