Although it can often be detrimental – particularly when a smartphone is lost or misplaced – one of the great things about owning a mobile device in this digital age is that we’re required to think less when it comes to menial, everyday tasks. Jotting down events on pieces of paper and reminding ourselves to message people at certain times can now be done with little or no effort, leaving our minds clear to concentrate on more pressing issues, such as dropping a piece of candy into a frog’s mouth in Cut The Rope.
Since the inception of the App Store, there have been many event-planning and reminder-centric apps available from third-parties, and since Apple itself decided to offer its own native Reminders app, developers of said apps have now been coerced into upping the ante in an attempt to outdo the Cupertino’s fairly decent offering.
For those who still regard a social event as an occasion where people meet and interact face-to-face as opposed to inviting associates to a page on Facebook, Invy for iPhone is an ideal solution, and makes a great tool for those close-knit communities and families who love nothing more than to plan gatherings and social events.
Invy is not your typical event-planning app, but it’s certainly one of the best we’ve stumbled across here at Redmond Pie. Offering a nice, clean interface that is minimal without being overly bland, Invy integrates with the native address book and calendar on the iPhone, and once you’ve signed up, you can quickly create events and send out invites with a few simple clicks.
Of course, this can easily be done on Facebook, but despite boasting in excess of 800 million users, there are still many who don’t use the world’s number one social network, and with Invy, invite recipients who do not have an iPhone can simply use the Invy website in order to receive the even info.
You can have private chats with those you have invited to discuss specifics, and if you decide on a revised date, your friends will be sent another notification with the amended details. It costs just $1.99 and does a fantastic job. It is no-frills without being overly basic, and the interface is wonderfully crafted. If you’re one to constantly be organizing events, this app is your perfect ally.
