Jailbreak Users, Install ‘TIFF Disabler’ Right Now On Your iOS Device, Here’s Why

We recently informed you all about a critical security vulnerability CVE-2016-4631 in ImageIO framework which Apple patched in the latest iOS 9.3.3 firmware. This vulnerability allows any attacker to create an exploit and send it via MMS inside a .TIFF image file in order to steal passwords from the victim’s iOS device.

The said vulnerability affects iOS 9.3.2 and below firmwares, which means one way to keep your iOS device secure from this is to update to the latest iOS 9.3.3 firmware.

Now for non-jailbreak users, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem as updating to iOS 9.3.3 is as easy as heading to Settings > General > Software Update on the device and updating directly from there. For jailbreak users though, it’s a completely different story altogether.

This is because there’s no jailbreak available for iOS 9.2-9.3.3 firmwares, meaning those of you who are jailbroken on iOS 9.1 or below had only one way to keep the device secure from this vulnerability, to update to iOS 9.3.3 and lose the jailbreak – until now that is, because a new jailbreak package by the name of TIFF Disabler is now available on Cydia for jailbroken devices which patches this vulnerability on iOS 9.1 and below firmwares.

To install this patch on a jailbroken device, simply head to Cydia right now and search for TIFF Disabler package, and then install it from there. There’s no need to add any third-party repository as this package is available on Cydia’s default BigBoss repo.

To recap, if you are planning to keep your device jailbroken on iOS 9.1 or below firmware, make sure you install this package from Cydia as soon as possible. As for those who don’t care about jailbreaks, we recommend updating to iOS 9.3.3 to keep your devices up to date with Apple’s latest security patches, including one for CVE-2016-4631.
