For those who have taken delivery of one of Apple’s new iPhone 11 range of smartphones, the idea of being able to liberate that device via jailbreaking may not be utterly preposterous.
Well-known jailbreaker and security researcher @iBSparkes has taken to Twitter to confirm that his existing tfp0 exploit is still relevant to Apple’s brand new devices.
The well-known individual took to Twitter – like many security researchers and hackers do – to throw up a humble-brag against Apple. This time, the brag was to confirm that he had managed to achieve tfp0 in under less than 3-minutes from taking delivery of his brand new A13 Bionic-powered iPhone 11 device. Under normal circumstances, that humble brag would be worthy of serious applause, but in this circumstance, it essentially means that the already-known exploit is still relevant to this hardware.
The interesting aspect here is that @iBSparkes has been keeping this tfp0 exploit under his belt since the early iOS 13 beta days, simply waiting to see how long it will stand the test of time. It seems that it has held up extremely well considering Apple’s brand new iPhone 11 devices ship with the first public release of iOS 13 pre-installed on them. This shows that the exploit is not only relevant to older hardware but also Apple’s latest devices running the current version of iOS 13.
All of that sounds like amazingly wonderful and positive news for would-be jailbreakers. But, this is the world of jailbreaking where nothing is that clear cut. We already know that Apple is planning on pushing out iOS 13.1 this coming September 24, which means that this whole landscape could change. Only time will tell on that part.
For now, it’s amazing that @iBSparkes has managed to give jailbreakers a glimmer of hope in a launch-day situation which is usually filled with doom-and-gloom from a jailbreaking perspective. Let’s hope that if iOS 13.1 is launched and doesn’t pour water over the fire that the researcher shares the exploit with other members of the community in the hope that it could be integrated into an existing tool like unc0ver or Chimera to offer an iOS 13 / iPhone 11 jailbreak experience.
Let’s keep our collective fingers crossed!
