If you are looking to jailbreak iOS 17.1.1 on your iPhone or jailbreak iPadOS 17.1.1 on your iPad, here’s the latest status update and all the jailbreaking information you need to know.
Now that Apple has released iOS 17.1.1 to the public, you might be questioning whether to install it or not. For the majority, the answer is pretty simple — you’ll receive all the latest enhancements in bug fixes and security, along with a set of new features, so installing is going to be the best course of action here.
But what if you’re aiming for a jailbreak? The same thing generally applies here — it’s wise to update. The detailed explanation? It’s a bit more complex.
The previous hardware-based jailbreak hinged on the bootrom-based checkra1n exploit applicable only to A10 and older devices. Since this type of jailbreak wasn’t something Apple could block through software updates, it had a certain resilience. However, with the launch of iOS 17, support for those devices was removed, meaning that any iPhone X or iPhone 8, or older versions, would be incompatible with the new update. That also goes for iOS 17.1.1, as you’d expect. As a result of all that Checkra1n lost its relevance for devices operating on iOS 17 and above.
The crux is that jailbreaking isn’t an option for iOS 17, which, by extension, indicates that newer models like the iPhone 15 are off the table for jailbreaking as well.
In light of this, our advice leans towards updating to iOS 17.1.1 now and taking advantage of everything it brings to the table. Holding off in anticipation of a potential jailbreak seems like a bad idea and potentially a waste of time, especially with no strong indications that one is on the horizon.
