If you want to jailbreak iOS 17, here’s the latest status update you need to know before you do anything with your iPhone’s software.
Apple has been testing iOS 17 with developers and public beta testers ever since it was announced in June and now it’s finally ready for everyone who wants to get it.
The iPhone’s big annual software update is always worth checking out, but those who are interested in jailbreaking might need to pay attention — because it isn’t good news.
Unlike previous versions of iOS that could be jailbroken on older devices like the iPhone X, that’s a no-go here. The iOS 17 update doesn’t support those A10-powered iPhones anymore, so you’re out of luck there. Those users will still be able to jailbreak their existing iOS 16 update, however.
As for newer iPhones, there are no jailbreaks that have been made available that work with iOS 17 which means that you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that jailbreaking simply isn’t possible with iOS 17. At least, not now. Things could change with future jailbreaks but right now the scene doesn’t seem to be as strong as it once was.
Thankfully, iOS 17 has most of the features that people used to jailbreak for, anyway. Live and interactive widgets are a good example, as are multitasking and more Home screen customization. That won’t be enough to pacify the most ardent of jailbreakers, but that’s where we are right now.
