If you want to jailbreak iOS 16.6, here’s the latest update you need to know before you do anything.
Apple has now released iOS 16.6 to the public after a weeks-long beta program and most people can go ahead and install it right away without having to think about it too much.
But then again, some should probably think a little hardware — especially if they want to jailbreak. Here’s what the current situation is for those who are looking at these updates and wondering whether they should install them on their devices.
It’s all fairly simple, actually.
If you own an iPhone X or iPhone 8, you can use the Palera1n jailbreak once it’s updated to include support for iOS 16.6. That’s because those particular iPhones have been jailbroken at the bootrom level, which means that regardless of any efforts by Apple to fix the jailbreak exploit, it can’t be patched.
However, if you’re using something newer like the iPhone 14, you’re out of luck for now. That might change at some point in the future but we don’t know if or when it will.
At this point, jailbreaking isn’t as important to most people sit once was and we’d always suggest that people update to the latest version of iOS to ensure that they have the latest software updates and bug fixes. Security improvements are also important, too.
The iOS 16.6 update is now available for download via the Settings app on your compatible iPhone.
