If you want to jailbreak iOS 16.5.1, here’s the latest update you need to know before you do anything.
Apple has now made iOS 16.5.1 and iPadOS 16.5.1 available for download and while this update is all about fixing issues and plugging security holes, we’d still suggest that people install it as soon as possible.
But what if you’re someone who likes to jailbreak? Maybe you should take a different approach? That will very much depend on what version of the iPhone you’re using.
If you own an iPhone X or iPhone 8, you can use the Palera1n jailbreak once it’s updated to include support for iOS 16.5.1. Those particular iPhones have been jailbroken at the bootrom level, which means that regardless of any efforts by Apple to fix the jailbreak exploit, it can’t be patched.
However, if you’re using something newer like the iPhone 14, you’re out of luck for now. That might change, but we don’t know if or when it will.
Of course, iOS jailbreaking isn’t as big as it once was and with iOS 16 packing so many features that previously required a jailbreak, is it really worth the hassle? The iOS 17 update is also coming later this year, adding yet more features.
If you do decide to jailbreak, keep in mind that there could still be issues even if you have a supported iPhone and use the right tools. Your mileage may very much vary.
