iWatch Will Have Curved Display, Wireless Charging; iPhone 6 Will Get One-Handed Mode

We’re now less than five days from the grand unveiling of Apple’s major new releases, including the company’s inaugural smartwatch. Although we’ve a pile of info regarding the also-impending iPhone 6, the mere fact that the iWatch hasn’t apparently gone into production as yet means that details have been incredibly scarce. Still, with announcement day now imminent, tidbits of info appear to be slipping through the next, and while Ming-Chi Kuo revealed earlier today that the device may include 8GB of storage and 512MB RAM, another reliable source has dropped some information pertaining to the device’s other major features.

Today’s latest report from The New York Times implies that the iWatch / iBand will feature a flexible display, and although this isn’t the first time that such a notion has been offered, the fact that it’s coming from the NYT just days before the confirmed keynote gives it added leverage.

In kitting the device out with a curved display, it would presumably fit more comfortably on a user’s wrist, and with numerous reports touting two separate configurations to suit both men and women, it’s clear that Apple won’t be straying too far from its ethos of delivering fashionable products. Despite keeping the iWatch in vogue, though, Apple also plans to grab a piece of the fitness and health market, and as such, HealthKit will be at the heart of iWatch’s functionality.

The flexible panel will likely be protected by sapphire glass, a material that has popped up as nauseam over the last few months and that is strongly suspected to be covering at least some variants of the iPhone 6. Speaking of which, the New York Times report also suggests that the upcoming smartphone will feature a novel ‘one-handed mode’ allowing users to complete tasks and actions while holding the device with one hand. It won’t be compulsory, but given that some users will no doubt struggle with basic tasks over a 4.7- or 5.5-inch canvas, it’s good to see that Apple has taken the time to refine functionality.

So, with both iWatch and iPhone 6 getting NFC right off the bat, we’re now just waiting on that announcement. Apple has just confirmed the live stream, which will be available via Safari on OS X and iOS as well as Apple TV, and no matter where you may be on September 9th, we’ll have all of the important announcements covered right here at Redmond Pie!

Excited?
