Along with the release of OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, Apple has also updated the iTunes app to version 11.2. The download is only available to those running 64-bit Windows and Mac OS X, so if you’re rocking either platform, check the important details below.
Apple’s iTunes is the focal point of the iOS experience, and having been dealt a series of major overhauls, has just been given a slight bump for Mac users and those running Windows on the 64-bit architecture.
So, what’s included with this particular update? Well, first and foremost, those on Windows 64-bit will be able to enjoy enhanced podcast browsing, so if you’re looking for some new feeds to subscribe to, everything should feel a touch slicker and easier to navigate.
Moreover, you’ll be able to jump to episodes you haven’t listened to via the newly-implemented Unplayed tab, check new downloads via the Feed tab, and also store your favorite episodes onto your PC.
A pre-existing issue, which caused iTunes to freeze up when updating Genius, has also apparently been resolved, and even if you’re not a podcast user nor have experienced any problems in using iTunes, it’s highly recommended that you pick up version 11.2.
The complete changelog of iTunes 11.2 is as follows:
This update includes the following improvements:
-Improved Podcast Browsing
-Quickly find episodes you haven’t listened to in the new Unplayed tab
-Browse episodes that are available to download or stream in the Feed tab
-Save your favorite episodes to keep them on your computer
-Episodes can now be automatically deleted after you play them
-This update also resolves an issue where iTunes may become unresponsive when updating Genius and improves overall performance and stability. Podcasts for iOS 2.1 or later is recommended when syncing podcast episodes.
Whether Apple plans to make any major changes with iTunes in 2014 remains to be seen. Leaks have yet to suggest that the famed media player will see any noteworthy alterations, and given how much time and effort is supposedly going into reworking the interface of OS X 10.10, it seems less than likely that iTunes will be treated to any tweaks.
Nevertheless, we’ll be keeping an eye out for any news related to improvements in iTunes, and given the supposed deal between Apple and Beats Electronics – which will also see the audio company’s streaming music service fall under the Apple umbrella — you do feel that iTunes is in line for some changes in the near future.
We’ll be sure to let you guys know if and when iTunes is afforded a major update, and in the meantime, be sure to grab version 11.2 if you’re on Windows x64 or Mac OS X.
