Apple has today announced that its brand new and extremely powerful iMac Pro all-in-one desktop will be available to order starting from December 14, 2017.
This latest hardware from Apple is an extension of the iMac lineup, and will appeal to those professionals and enthusiasts looking for a top-of-the-line experience and who don’t mind paying for that pleasure, with iMac Pro starting at $4,999.
Apple’s Vice President of Engineering, John Ternus, has stated that Apple’s new powerful desktop is “huge step forward and there’s never been anything like it.” Those who will be looking to purchase one of these powerhouse machines will likely be professionals in intensive industries, performing daily tasks which demand a lot of processing power. It’s very likely to appeal to those who regularly work within the video and photo editing environments or those with an engineering onus who regularly deal with or have to manipulate 3D models and datasets.
Of course, when Apple initially introduced the iMac Pro, the company also paid particular attention to the fact that it would be the perfect machine for the creation of virtual reality content for new and cutting-edge experiences. Apple has already played its hand where immersive technologies are concerned with the release of ARKit, so it makes perfect sense that the company is also providing a rig that’s not only beautiful (in its Space Gray glory!) and continues the legacy of iMac, but which also comes with the pure power needed to create and edit these types of experiences efficiently.
Those parting with the starting price of $4,999+ will get a stunning machine with a glorious 5K Retina 27-inch display built inside of an elegant-looking Space Gray enclosure and an accompanying Magic Trackpad 2, Magic Mouse 2, and a matching Space Gray Magic Keyboard with a built-in numerical keypad. That initial outlay will get you a serious bit of computational power but if you do feel the need to spend a little more and configure the machine to your own liking then it is possible to move up to an 18-core Intel Xeon processor with up to 128GB RAM. Configurators can also opt for a whopping 4TB SSD and an AMD Radeon Pro Vega 64 graphics processor.
The iMac Pro features four Thunderbolt 3 ports, a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port, four USB-A 3.0 ports, and a slot for an SD card just in case that 4TB isn’t enough storage. Oh, and unlike iPhone 7 or above, this powerhouse also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
